Klipplaatsdrift Safari Lodge is a modern farmstyle off-the-grid establishment situated along the Vlekpoort River 32km outside the small Karoo town of Hofmeyr in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.  While offering tasteful and comfortable accomodation one can experience and enjoy the warm hospitality the farm life in the Karoo has to offer. The landscape boasts abundant birdlife, scenery, and wildlife.

You will find endless mountain views, crisp mornings where one can smell the Karoo vegetation at its best. Late afternoons can be spent observing how the Bamboes Mountain Range colours slowly transform from a peachy pink to a dark blue contrast as the sun slowly sets.

Klipplaatsdrift Safaris, believes in the natural protection and conservation of all wildlife species unique to Southern Africa.

We are situated 2km from the R391 gravel road on-route between Cape Town and Gauteng where our closest airport is 340km away in Port Elizabeth.

Shaun and Nastasha who are the 4th generation on the farm.  Shaun was born and bread in the hardy Karoo whilst Nastasha is a city girl that moved to the Karoo a few years ago.  We are sure their daugters Kara and Gianna will both continue the Klipplaatsdrift Safari Lodge dream.

The conservancy currently consists of 5800 hectares consisting of numerous individual farms thereby providing abundant habitat for the wildlife. The conservancy is also located in the malaria and Bilharzia free Eastern Cape which is also a relatively disease free area since it is based in the hardy Karoo.

We at Klipplaatsdrift farm predominantly with Merino sheep, Brangus cattle and furthermore we have over 20 species of antelope on the conservancy including animals such as Cape buffalo, Sable Antelope, Golden Wildebeest, Eland, Copper Springbuck, Lechwe along with numerous other species of plains game.

We are the 4th generation on the farm and originally moved to Klipplaatsdrift farm in 2015 after Shaun’s dad, Nasie, gave over his reign to his sons. Farming has always been in our DNA and that is why we traded the city life for “quality of life”.

Klipplaatsdrift was originally predominantly a stock farm until we had a dream of sharing our quiet, quality, farming lifestyle with the hustle and bustle that is in need for a taste of the outdoors and easy pace. A place where one can push pause and enjoy the smaller things in life, where your soul can rest and recharge.

It is also an interesting fact that the Vlekpoort River that runs past the lodge derived its name many years ago when at last light, antelope skinsplaced on the ground and hung on the bushes could be seen shining in the flats from the Bamboes Mountain Range at last light. The antelope skins reflecting the last rays of sunlight were said to look like “Vlekke” and hence the name Vlekpoort River.

The main lodge, is what we call the “get together” space.

The space consist of an airy open plan fully equipped kitchen, dining room, lounge and bar which leads you out onto a covered patio next to the boma that overlooks the Vlekpoort river. You will find a built-in braai in the dining room area which can seat up to 12 guests. The lounge has a slow combustion fireplace which is just perfect for our cold winter months. One can also sit in the boma area where you will find an outdoor braai and bonfires can be enjoyed under the African skies while sipping on a glass of wine.

The Chalets, your private escape to nest.

There are four chalets which consist of 2 bedrooms each with a shared bathroom (shower only). Each chalet can sleep 4 adults comfortably.

Each room is made up with a king-size bed and 2 single beds which can be converted to a king-size bed on request. A Camping cot or extra mattress is also available for the little ones on request.
